Since we talked about a proper breakfast on the last post, I wanted to share one of my favorite breakfast options of all time: açaí bowls.
Avoid buying frozen puree brands that contain sugar and other added “flavors”. The best brand I have found that has minimal ingredients is Amafruits. It tastes great! Do not expect açaí to taste sweet because it won’t. Açaí bowls from places such as Jamba Juice or your local juice bar would usually have a lot of added sugar and that’s why they taste super sweet. If this is how you like your açaí bowls to taste, you can add stevia, agave, maple syrup or even coconut sugar to your mix. I love eating acai because it has a lot of health benefits, and since it is one of earth’s greatest antioxidants it will keep you energized and give will give relief to your digestive system! Açaí bowls are simple to make and if you add granola and fruit it can keep you full for a decent amount of time.
I usually mix my frozen açaí with other frozen fruit such as raspberries, strawberries, bananas and blueberries.
For making one serving, you usually mix one or two bananas with a handful of frozen berries, along with one packet of açaí frozen puree. Some people like adding almond/cashew milk or coconut water, or even plain water. I have learned by experience that it’s best if you add very little liquid and test how that works before adding a whole lot, because then it will become like a smoothie instead of a nice, thick consistency! Also, it’s better if you use frozen fruit only (if you happen to add other fruits to the mix). If you add fruit that’s not frozen, then the mixture will come out like a smoothie and it will not get any better if you add a bunch of ice! So frozen fruit only and minimal liquid is great for making the perfect mix! Once your puree is nice and smooth, then you pour it on your favorite bowl, add granola, then your desired fruit or toppings! So easy and quick to prepare!
